Herculaneum blue is an artificial mineral inorganic pigment.
It is the oldest known artificial pigment, and is also called Egyptian blue.
It was known by the Egyptians, Etruscans, Greeks and Romans, also used in the Middle Ages and Renaissance and is described by Pliny, Theophrastus and Vitruvius.
The tone is very intense and bright. It has a medium-low coloring power.

Blu di Ercolano is a high quality extrafine color available in 1/2 pucks.
Our binder is homemade with the finest Kordofan gum arabic, glycerin and clove oil.
Each puck is filled three to four times to ensure the best possible quality.
For best results we recommend wetting the puck with one or two drops of water to allow the color to reactivate.
Each color is designed and made with love, it is possible that small bubbles or cracks may appear on the colors which do not affect the color itself in any way.
